From November 27th to 29th, the 2023 Annual Conference of the China Chemical Society was grandly held in Guangzhou. It is an international, multidisciplinary, and cross-regional event in the field of chemical engineering in China. More than 3,000 industry experts gathered for this event, and Mr. Wu Jiantao, CEO of Farmtory, had the honor of being invited to attend.
The conference featured nearly 30 special forums and activities, including the Fourth Sub-venue – the Biotechnology Forum and the 12th Biotechnology Fundamental Innovation and Industrial Development Seminar. With the theme of “Green Manufacturing, Low Carbon Development,” this forum brought together experts and scholars from domestic and foreign universities, research institutes, and enterprises. They discussed topics such as synthetic biology and bio-manufacturing, biocatalysis and bioconversion, green chemistry, and the utilization of biomass resources. The aim was to explore the technological frontiers, development trends, and scientific cooperation in green manufacturing, actively promoting the high-quality development of green biomanufacturing.
During the conference, Professor Tan Tianwei, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered a keynote speech on “Green Biomanufacturing,” providing a brilliant introduction to the potential roles of synthetic biology in various fields. Professors Fan Daidi from Northwest University, Zhu Wei from South China University of Technology, Tao Yong from the Institute of Microbiology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xu Hong from Nanjing Tech University, Wu Jing from Jiangnan University, Xue Yaping from Zhejiang University of Technology, Xing Xinhui from Tsinghua University, and Jiang Min from Nanjing Tech University respectively delivered keynote speeches. The conference brought together numerous outstanding scientists, covering various applications of synthetic biology in food, medicine, resource regeneration, and biomaterials, fully demonstrating China’s international leadership in this field. The conference concluded with a speech by Dr. Oliver Yu, a renowned synthetic biology expert from the United States, who detailed the risks and opportunities in the commercialization of synthetic biology, showcasing the charm and challenges of the industrialization process.
